Method of Communicating Essential Areas and Policies to Accredited Providers (99-08-G)

Essential Areas, Elements & Policies, as adopted by the OSMA, are communicated with accredited providers (as well as those entities/organizations which may wish to seek accreditation), in the following manner:

  • OSMA handout entitled: An Overview of the Application Process for
  • Accreditation
  • OSMA handout entitled: The Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education Programs in Ohio B A Guide for Providers
  • OSMA handout entitled: Procedures for the On-Site Survey (insert Documentation of the OSMA Essential Areas, Elements & Policies)

Additional opportunities for communicating the Essential Areas, Elements & Policies with accredited providers exists through formal educational presentations which include the annual CME Symposium, annual CME Coordinators' Exchange and workshops on preparing for the on-site survey and individuals new to CME.

Method of Communicating Updates to Accredited Providers (99-08-H)

Changes to the Essential Areas, Elements & Policies are communicated to all accredited providers in the following manner:

  • Updates and notification via email to all OSMA accredited providers.
  • Dissemination of information (both written and/or verbal) at formal educational presentations for accredited providers which include the annual CME Symposium and annual Coordinators' Exchange.

Staffing/Administration of Accreditation Program (99-08-P)

As specified by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, under Criterion 4 of the Decision Making Elements for Use by the Committee for Review and Recognition of State Medical Societies to accredit Intrastate CME Providers, the OSMA assures that it has sufficient resources and staff to fulfill its accreditation function in the following manner:

  • The accreditation program is under the guidance of the Focused Task Force on Accreditation and administered under the direction of the Senior Director of Federation Relations with support for day-to-day responsibilities handled by the Director of Accreditation Services and Administrative Secretary as required.
  • To ensure that the person=s responsible for administering the accreditation program are qualified, as required by state medical society policies and procedures, to carry out the accreditation functions prescribed by the ACCME, specific and detailed job descriptions will be maintained and reviewed periodically.
  • In addition to handling the day-to-day responsibilities for the administration of the accreditation program, the OSMA provides staff resources to support the work of the surveyors.
