Jeffrey S. Smith, JD - Director, Physician Hospital Relations
Jeffrey S. Smith, JD serves as Director of Physician Hospital Relations for the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA). He is responsible for managing the OSMA’s Health System Physician Division which encompasses the development of programmatic, educational, advocacy and membership activities for health system employed physicians. Prior to this, Mr. Smith represented the OSMA membership before the state legislature, executive agencies, and the Ohio Congressional delegation. With more than a decade of advocacy experience, Mr. Smith has been involved in numerous health policy reforms, among them the crafting of Ohio’s new prescription drug abuse law, the passage of the Healthcare Simplification Act and the refining of the medical liability reform statutes. In addition to his advocacy activities, Mr. Smith also frequently speaks on the topics of health system reform, prescription drug abuse, managed care reform and the impact of politics on health policy.
Mr. Smith graduated with honors from Kent State University and Capital University Law School with a concentration in government relations. Mr. Smith is an active member of the Ohio Lobbying Association and Ohio State Bar Association and serves on the Board of Directors and volunteers as a vision screener at the Columbus Physicians’ Free Clinic. On a personal note, Mr. Smith is an avid runner and has completed 37 marathons with a goal of completing one in all 50 states.
