Lima’s Dr. Andrew Cook looks to OSMA for comforts of home

Dr. Andrew Cook is a self-described family man. He followed in his father’s footsteps to become a second-generation radiologist. The Ohio native stayed home in Dayton for both his undergraduate training at the University of Dayton and medical education at Wright State University.

Thanks to his dad’s guidance, Dr. Cook, of Lima Radiological Associates, has been hearing about OSMA for decades. While he sees many aspects of OSMA membership as a great benefit to physicians, he’s particularly fond of the organization’s ability to give clear, familiar answers to his occasionally thorny questions.

"OSMA is like a helpful big brother,” he says. “It’s a friendly, nurturing organization, someplace you can go when you feel you need answers to important questions.”

Whether at the local or state level, Dr. Cook knows that he can count on the OSMA to be there when he seeks help.

“I know OSMA was critical in accomplishing tort reform for Ohio physicians and the fact that our malpractice rates have actually dropped two years in a row is directly attributable to OSMA,” he says. “OSMA also intervened when we had physician issues at our local hospital.”

Dr. Cook has been with Lima Radiological for nearly a decade, specializing in Diagnostic Radiology. He is also the Medical Director of the Radiology Department at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Ohio.

Lima Radiological relies on OSMA for it Workers' Compensation coverage. Last year OSMA participants saved nearly $2.5 million in workers’ comp fees. In addition, Dr. Cook's practice purchases its medical liability insurance through OSMA. Participating physicians receive a 5 percent discount plus can earn an additional 5 percent discount based on practice efficiency.

“To me, OSMA is the physician voice in politics,” he says. “It’s a great resource for physicians and for all facets of a practice.”

Like a big brother passing down advice to his younger brother, Dr. Cook recommends that physicians take advantage of OSMA membership.

“Any issue a practicing physician has to deal with it can turn to OSMA for help. There’s great security in knowing OSMA will be there every time I need it, without exception.”
