CMS Announces CPC Initiative Participants
Thursday, August 23, 2012The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the participants in the Comprehensive Primary Care initiative (CPC). CPC is a multi-payer initiative fostering collaboration between public and private health care payers to strengthen primary care. Medicare will work with commercial and state health insurance plans and offer bonus payments to primary care doctors who better coordinate care for their patients.
The Cincinnati-Dayton area was selected as one of seven pilot areas for the initiative. Overall, 75 primary care practices representing 261 providers and 10 payers are involved in the Cincinnati-Dayton pilot, which includes parts of Kentucky.
While CPC is currently only in the pilot stages, CMS may choose to expand the initiative to other areas around Ohio depending on the results of these pilots. We will keep you posted as this current pilot process moves forward.
