CMS Extends eRx Hardship Deadline

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is extending the deadline for filing an ePrescribing (eRx) hardship exemption from June 30 to July 2.

According to the American Medical Association (AMA), CMS appears to be doing this because there are some computer system updates underway for the Communication Support Page, as well as the fact that some physicians with Apple computers are having challenges submitting their hardship exemptions.

It is strongly recommended that if you are not able to submit a hardship exemption request by this new deadline that you document any calls and emails you have with the Communications Support webpage team and retain the log for your records. In addition, send an email to the CMS ePrescribing email box to indicate that you were unable to file online, state the reason why and indicate the hardship for which you are applying.
