The benchmark database

![]() |
Reimbursement data is hard to come by, and without it, providers often feel left in the dark regarding their competitiveness in the marketplace. But now, providers can access an objective database, the Benchmark Database®, that allows them to negotiate with greater confidence.
Developed by Praesentia Consultation LLC, the Benchmark Database® is a proprietary database that allows providers to confidentially and legally compare their managed care reimbursement data to market averages. Offered at a discounted rate for OSMA members, this online tool benchmarks more than 450 CPT® codes against average negotiated rates in five Ohio markets and three nearby Midwest cities. Results can be used in negotiations with health insurers, as a tool for physician recruitment and/or to analyze trends in reimbursement relative to an individual practice.
Cities currently available for online benchmarking are:
Cincinnati
Columbus
Cleveland
Dayton
Toledo
Indianapolis
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Pricing for OSMA members is as little as $45 per month with a three-month minimum purchase, which is a 24 percent discount on the standard rate. Access to the service lets subscribers create reports benchmarking three managed care fee schedules. Practices can purchase additional credits to create reports or stay subscribed beyond the three months and receive additional credits each month. For as long as they’re subscribed, practices can compare and re-compare their fees to the database. This is helpful as negotiations can last year round, and Praesentia regularly adds data to the database.
The Benchmark Database complies with the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust regulations, including confidentiality protections and assurance that the data represents a minimum number of practices.

About Praesentia
Started in Cincinnati, Praesentia’s consultants train physician practices to negotiate effectively with managed care companies. Notably, their instruction has enabled small and large practices alike to leverage the shared interests of patients and employers. Their approach can neutralize the more robust financial resources available to health insurers.
If you have any questions about the Benchmark Database®, please contact Maureen Kraft at (800) 766-6762 or mkraft@osma.org.
The OSMA offers the Benchmark Database as a member practice management resource and is not engaged in data collection and does not assist practices in contract negotiation. Neither the OSMA nor independent physician practices are permitted to collectively negotiate fees or share price information.
