ICD-10 and 5010 Implementation
Oct. 1, 2013, will mark one of the most significant changes to our overall health care system, the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 diagnostic coding. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services remains adamant that this date will not be delayed. This national conversion project will impact both financial and clinical systems, essentially every operational aspect of your practice/organization.
The clock is ticking and now is the time to gather speed in accomplishing both 5010 implementation and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding change. It is important to understand that both aspects of this project are not mutually exclusive and therefore must be addressed somewhat simultaneously.
5010 Implementation Deadline... June 30, 2012
ICD-10 Implementation Deadline... Oct. 1, 2013
A pending rule could change the ICD-10 implementation deadline to October 2014.
