National Health Plan Identifier
The AMA urges the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to take immediate action on the National Health Plan Identifier (NHPI) and publish a final rule to create an implementation date of Oct. 1, 2012. We encourage all stakeholders in the claims processing and payment process to consider the AMA’s recommendation as a potential solution to provide the necessary up-front billing and payment transparency required by physicians and their patients.
