Payment Reform
& Practice Transformation

Physicians are facing major changes in the way they will be paid in the future. There is a strong push at both the federal and state level to move away from fee-for-service to a system that pays for value and outcomes. In particular, the MACRA legislation passed last year will dramatically change the way Medicare pays physicians starting in 2019 (on data collected starting Jan 1 of 2017). Similarly, in Ohio, the state’s Office of Health Transformation has undertaken a major initiative to change both the way they pay for primary care and specialty services.

OSMA looks to keep Ohio physicians up-to-date on these major payment reform initiatives to help you understand the changes in more depth and prepare your practice for the future. For now, we are focusing on federal and state payment reform programs and will add some specific examples from commercial insurance carriers soon.
