Physician Leadership Institute of Ohio
The OSMA and the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) have joined in collaboration to create the Physician Leadership Institute of Ohio
(PLIO) to develop physician leaders in our state. As Ohio’s first and only statewide physician leadership development program, the PLIO has a goal of developing cultures of team leadership in hospitals and health systems that include skilled physician leaders. This innovative program is intended to provide Ohio physicians with a forum to become transformational leaders in clinically integrated delivery systems across our state.
This unique collaborative effort will improve leadership skills in the area of physician hospital relations, team management, care coordination and population health management. Its creation is the product of physician leaders and hospital administrators committing to empowering physicians with the knowledge, skills and experience to provide more than clinical care and to become dynamic leaders in integrated delivery systems.
The program will teach physicians to lead with strategy by working with their teams and hospital partners to identify and implement strategic clinically integrated, population health initiatives. It will help physicians learn to lead people through this period of uncertainty and change in our health care delivery system. And it will help physicians to lead for results by maximizing performance of their clinical teams, optimizing safety and enabling their groups and organizations to thrive in the new health care environment.
The OHA and the OSMA have the unique opportunity to partner with The Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) affiliated with the University of South Florida (USF) www.physicianleadership.org on the design, structure, curriculum and faculty for the leadership development program. Along with this partnership comes special pricing available to our members only.
The PLI experiential approach immerses the physicians in 4 key areas: seeing Self first as leaders, inspiring their teams, leading change strategies, and delivering transformative outcomes. The PLI pragmatic structure was highly recommended from several medical societies, hospital associations and health systems around the country. It is also a winner of the Florida Healthcare Innovation Awards. PLI has an experienced program with proven results and is a good partner for Ohio’s physician leadership development efforts.
The Physician Leadership Institute of Ohio will enroll between 12- 20 physicians per institute. We began our second Physician Leadership Institute in the fall of 2013. The institute will provide an individualized and comprehensive assessment of each physician’s skills at the beginning and end of the program to ensure improvement in leadership skills, knowledge and experience.
It is an innovative approach to developing hospital and health system physician leaders in a collaborative manner with the medical society and hospital association. It is a commitment by the state physician leadership and hospital administrators to promote physician hospital relations in a transformative and positive way.
