Meet OSMA Foundation Summer Scholar, Sydney Bitting

Developing the next generation of physicians!

The OSMA Foundation's Summer Scholars program provides stipends for medical students to pursue summer opportunities in research, community health, health advocacy and medical education programs.

Summer Internship Program:
I am currently working on a review article about community-based participatory research in Neurology and a qualitative study to analyze counseling that has occurred with children and adolescents after diagnosis.

How did you hear about the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars stipend opportunity?
I heard about the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars stipend opportunity through my school.

What impact has the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars program had on you and your medical school goals and pursuits?
The OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars program has allowed me to pursue my interests of neurology and PM&R by focusing on these aspects during my summer research. This will guide me to enhance my understanding of these fields.

What’s next for your medical career journey?
In addition to this research, I am working on a hematology-oncology case report through Akron Children's Hospital and am volunteering at the Akron Rotary Camp that supports children with disabilities. After my summer, I will begin my M2 year in the fall. I am excited to expand my interests this summer and see what my M2 year has in store. 

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I love to travel! I have been to 29 out of 50 states and hope to add to that list this summer.
