How did you hear about the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars stipend opportunity?
Through my school’s research and grants office

Tell us about your summer internship program. What are you working on?
This summer I will be working at the VA hospital in Columbus on a quality improvement project to identify gaps in behavioral health and find ways to minimize them. We are trying to find better ways of standardizing the messaging going out to potential and existing patients so that they can access the care they desire. We are also trying to identify why there are missed opportunities (no-shows) and if there is an overarching reason behind it.

What impact has the OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars program had on you and your medical school goals and pursuits?
The OSMA Foundation Summer Scholars program has allowed me to pursue this internship without having to worry about how I was going to pay for everything this summer. I wanted to have an experience this summer where I really felt like I was making a difference and not just doing something to build a CV. Working to find gaps in care and figuring out ways to better serve the veterans community is incredibly rewarding and I would not have been able to do it without OSMA. I will be able to take this experience with me for the rest of my career.

What’s next for your medical career journey?
After enjoying my summer break before 2nd year starts, I am also looking forward to 3rd year and starting rotations so that I can find what specialty fits me best.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I have run 3 half marathons and am planning on my first marathon soon.
