Network Adequacy Bill Receives Testimony in Ohio House

In case you missed it, this week Representative Kellie Deeter (R, Norwalk) provided testimony before the House Insurance Company in support of HB 219, a network adequacy bill being championed by OSMA that aims to ensure Ohioans have timely and reasonable access to in-network healthcare providers.

This testimony highlighted the importance of standardized requirements to prevent delays in care, reduce out-of-pocket costs, and ultimately support patient care in Ohio.

Ohio is currently one of only 7 states without network adequacy requirements for commercial health insurance. As physicians, we know that for patients network inadequacy can lead to long wait times, limited access to specialists, and outdated provider directories with their insurance.

Network adequacy is also important for physicians and medical practices because insufficient networks can lead to reduced negotiating power with insurance companies, which can impact many aspects of practice - including reimbursement rates—and create other administrative burdens.

We appreciate Rep. Deeter’s support of this important piece of legislation. If you have questions or would like to get involved in advocating for HB 219 or other insurance reforms, email info@osma.org or call our office 614-527-6762.
