Advocating to Support Tax Credit Extension for Affordable Health Care

OSMA recently signed on to two letters (links below) encouraging Congressional leadership to work to prioritize extending the expiring enhanced premium tax credits which have helped more than 24 million Americans afford health care coverage and access necessary medical care.

Based on a Congressional Budget Office estimate, if these credits are not extended by the end of the year, 24 million Americans will experience an average increase in health insurance premiums of 75%, and at least 4.2 million will lose coverage entirely. This would have a disastrous impact on working families and small businesses, and could also lead to closures of physician practices and hospitals, particularly in rural areas. We believe that these tax credits have become vital for a sizable population, and extension would help ensure timely access to care.

OSMA joined a letter of support for tax credit extension coordinated by the American Medical Association Federation, as well as a second letter consisting of participants from the Coalition of State Medical Associations.
